Music
The Herricks Music and Performing Arts Department is nationally recognized for excellence in music education, and the Herricks Community values the importance of a strong musical experience for all students.
The mission of the Herricks Music Program is to offer study (through creating, performing and responding) that is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make music a meaningful part of everyday life. We strive to inspire each child to become a creative and innovative thinker through this comprehensive program. In this way we will foster artistic development, critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and the pursuit of life-long learning.
We offer a wide variety of educational experiences for students on all levels. Within the district's numerous bands, orchestras and choirs, the majority of the eligible students are enrolled in musical performance and most students continue their musical growth throughout High School.
In addition to performing groups, the High School curriculum offers classes in Music Theory, AP Music Theory, Guitar and Theatre.
The extra curricular musicals and dramas, jazz bands, chamber orchestras, wind ensembles and Jazz Choir, Men's and Women's Choir offer other exciting avenues for students to develop their musical interests and talents. The High School and Middle School have national recognized chapters of the Tri-M Music Honor Society where they were each named Chapter of the Year for 2018 for their service to both the school and community at large.
